Prequisite download Integrity Check

This is a nice feature, but it really should be optional.

We have prerequisites that get updated once in a while and once this happens, all of our installs out there in the world become useless.

The nice thing about being to download a perrequisite is that you get the ability to make the most recent available, integrity checks make that not possible.

Also, it would be nice if I could setup my own predefined prerequisites.
I have to add at least the Windows installer prerequisite to every one, but the exisitng predefined ones include the files in the install, and the one for NT/XP doesn't work (INSTMSIW). I include them as URL prerequistes in every install, but I have to manually type the URL and try to find an exe to browse to to get the integrity check info.

1 more :)
It would also be nice if the Company Name could have a default for new installs, this would help with consistency of the installs since it is used to create the initial install path.

Thanks

Hi,
This is a nice feature, but it really should be optional.
Note that this feature should not be optional because the installation package must verify if the download has been performed correctly.

If the integrity check is not activated and the download was not performed correctly then the bootstrapper fails when it tries to launch the prerequisite, resulting in a corrupt installation.
Also, it would be nice if I could setup my own predefined prerequisites.
I have added this feature on our TODO list and it will be available in a future version of Advanced Installer. Thank you for your suggestion.

We already have on our TODO list a feature that will set the default value of the "Company Name" field to the one set for the machine you are using to create a package. If this is not what you were referring to, then please give me more details.

Thank you for your reply.

I still however disagree with not making the integrity check optional.
It makes the use of URL prerequisites extremely limited as they cannot make use of future versions.

If a prerequisite download fails, it will not run properly, if at all. There are ways to detect this and ways to protect the installation from failing because of it.

Hi,

We will consider making this feature optional in a future version of Advanced Installer.

Thank you for your suggestion.
