Re: Virus Detected with AI Exe

Hello and welcome to our forums,

I apologize for this inconvenience.

Indeed, sometimes the AV products randomly flag one of our components as viruses - please rest assured as this is only a false positive - since it's detected only by not so well known AV products.

Scanning the Updater using the Defender results in no threats as well:

Moving forward, I would suggest scanning and then submitting the MSI file to the respective vendors that think it's actually a virus.

Best regards,

Re: Virus Detected with AI Exe

I understand that its a false positive but end-users don't and we've received thousands of inquiries about this issue in the last few days. I've submitted false positive requests to all the vendors but it's something I've never had to do on version 19.x

Why is the base stub from Advanced Installer getting flagged for those in 21.9 while it wasn't in 19.x ? Can I overwrite the stub from an older installation, will that cause any issues?

Thanks

Hello,

I am deeply sorry about this inconvenience - I really can understand how frustrating this is considering we've encountered this in the past as well.

The only reasoning I could find is that the ones from 19.0 are much older and therefore "trustable", while the ones from 21.9 are new. This is not the first time this has happened, unfortunately and that's the only logical conclusion I could draw from that.

Although nothing much changes between different versions, sometimes the resource gets flagged. For instance, in our case right here, it is the updater which has been the same for years - no major code changes at all.

I'd really do something to help here, but I'm afraid it's out of my reach - as previously mentioned, we do this for our product already. Before each release, we scan every binary from Advanced Installer + the MSI installer and submit for whitelisting if any major vendor flags us (e.g. BitDefender, Karspersky, ESET, etc.).

Thank you for your understanding!
