UI in chained installation

Hi,

I have a larger software project which consists of several components which can be combined in different ways. I am now considering deploying these components in individual MSI packages and deploying Chained installation in a main MSI. Is it possible to integrate the UI of a Chained MSI seamlessly into the installation wizard of the main MSI?

Hello René,
Is it possible to integrate the UI of a Chained MSI seamlessly into the installation wizard of the main MSI?

Not quite sure I fully understand what you mean here - could you please give me some more details so I can better assist (perhaps exemplify if you have any screenshots of the behavior you want to achieve)?

Best regards,
Catalin

Re: UI in chained installation

Hi Catalin,

I have several MSI packages which are individual features. These can be combined in different ways.

If the installation is executed with UI, I would like to display the UI of the Chained MSI in the same window and not separately.

Re: UI in chained installation

Hello René,

Thank you for your followup on this and for the explanation!

Please note that we can not display the UI of an installation package inside of another installation package - this is not supported by Windows Installer.

The installations are two different processes, each spawning its' own UI.

Best regards,
Catalin
