Upgrade with multiple instances

Hello everyone,
I have still problems with my multiple instances setup. The instances are generated at installation time. I can install 2 instances and they are shown as installed instances when I run the setup for a third time. So everything looks fine. But when I try to make an upgrade (with keeping the existing product code), the first instance is automatically uninstalled and only the second instance is shown in the installed instances dialog. And even when I try to do the upgrade on this second instance it will not upgrade but starts the maintenance process and then runs into an error.

What am I doing wrong? Can you please help me? Feel free to ask, if you need any more information.

I found a solution that works for me. I change product code und upgrade code, so each setup is like a new installation and there is no uninstall before the installation.
