ini file searches not returning data

I am trying to use the result of an ini file search, but I do not get any results.

The filename is set to [WindowsFolder]my.ini and the section/key definitely exist, field is set to 0, and I am asking for the raw value, but I am not getting any results, even when testing the search. Is this valid / is there something else I should be doing?

Hi,

The problem is in the way you edited the File Name field for the .ini search. Windows Installer is limited to searching .ini files only in the Windows Folder.

The value of the File Name field is not of formatted type, so you should not use [WindowsFolder] here. The solution to your problem is to specify in the File Name field just the name of the .ini file: my.ini.

Regards,
Ovidiu

Thanks - I should have realised that.

That covers one ini file, however I have at least one more in another folder so it would be useful to be able to enter a formatted type here.

Hi,

I am sorry but this is a limitation of Windows Installer.
You can read more about this here:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/librar ... S.85).aspx

A workaround that would solve your problem is creating a Custom Action.
