Windows Installer is in use during MSI

Hello,

I'd like to include the MS fileformat converter installer program (to be able to open office 2007 documents in office 2003) into an MSI using advanced installer.

The issue is that I cannot install it becuase I get the message that Windows Installer is in use (because of the MSI I run ofcourse).

Is there a way to solve this issue so I am able to run this program (/quiet) in my MSI?

I also tried to run it using a batch file inclusing a pause time but the MSi waits until this batch files completed and so the issue is still not solved.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

You are encountering this behavior because two MSI-based installations cannot run at the same time.

What you need can be done by adding the MS fileformat converter installation package as a prerequisite for your main package. You can read more about prerequisites here:
http://www.advancedinstaller.com/user-g ... requisites
http://www.advancedinstaller.com/user-g ... tware.html

In order to make the prerequisite install silently, you need to specify the /qn parameter in the "Command Line" field of the "Properties" tab in the "New Prerequisite" dialog.
http://www.advancedinstaller.com/user-g ... rties.html

Also, if you don't want to show the prerequisites wizard you can go to the "Software Prerequisites" tab of the "Prerequisites" page and set the "UI Level" combo box to "Silent install (no UI)".

Perfect, just tried it and it works perfectly. It just installs it before the MSI starts. Thanks for the reply, just bought the product as well.

I've seen different packages but this one is just what I'm looking for. Not too complicated, it does the work it should do.

Thanks!

:!: Just another question, I now see that it made an .exe file if I use prerequisites. It can not stay just one MSI?

Hi,

Unfortunately Windows Installer does not support prerequisites, therefore an .exe bootstrapper must be used.
