MSI Shortcut

I hope you can help me...

I am currently using Advanced Installer 3.1.1 Professional.

Normally when you install Microsoft Installer applications (such as Microsoft Word) then the information within the shortcut is very limited. You are unable to see the location of the target application.

If winword.exe becomes corrupt (or it you delete winword.exe) then when you double-click on the shortcut winword.exe is reinstalled.

It is this feature that I would like in Advanced Installer.

When I create a shortcut within AI then install the application, then the shortcut is like a non-MSI type shortcut.

If you delete myprog.exe (the .exe that the shortcut points to) and then double-click the shortcut the message 'unable find ...' appears, rather than automatically repairing the application and then executing it.

Please forgive me for not using the correct terminology here - I am not an MSI developer! Do these shortcuts have a name? Is it possible to create these type of shortcuts?

Many thanks,

Lee

Hi,

Such a shortcut (that triggers installation of a component) is called an Advertised Shortcut. This feature has already been implemented in Advanced Installer.

You only have to install a feature as advertised and then create an advertised shortcut to point to key member in a component in that feature.

For more information on this please visit:
