Dialog labels disappear during installation

Hello,
we are evaluating Advanced Installer and have found some problematic issues.

When starting installation several labels of the installation dialogs disappear.
Direct after opening/showing of a new dialog all labels are visible. But after waiting a while or after performing some actions (with mouse or keyboard) on the dialog, some labels get invisible. Unitl now we have seens this mostly for the labels which contains the name of the software to install (e.g. Label "Title" of the Prepare dialog or label "Description" of Folder dialog).

Another problem is that sometimes the text "Advanced installer" in the left lower corner of the dialog is not grayed out or is behing the line.

Environment:
- Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit
- Advanced Installer 7.6.1

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Re: Dialog labels disappear during installation

Hi Paul,

Usually this behavior is encountered when the target machine has Microsoft Intellipoint mouse and keyboard software installed (it's a bug in Windows Installer).
Does the machine with the problem have this software? If so, I'm afraid the only solution is to stop its processes.

Best regards,
Gabriel

Re: Dialog labels disappear during installation

Hi Gabriel,

I've sent you our porject file.

In the meantime I've detected a similar issue in your forum from november 2008:
http://www.advancedinstaller.com/forums ... ble#p20217

We have installed the Intellipoint mouse driver too. So it is possible that the problems are causes by it too. In the mentioned forum entry Cosmin from your company said "Unfortunately the installation dialogs are created, drawn and managed by Windows Installer. Therefore, only Microsoft could provide a solution.".
Until now we always used the installer from Visual Studio which generates an MSI installer too. With this installer we can't see those painting issues so it can't only be a problem of the Windows Installer.

Kind regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Did you have Intellipoint installed when this behavior occurred or you installed it afterwards? Also, was it installed when testing the Visual Studio package?

Re: Dialog labels disappear during installation

Hi Cosmin,

I have Intellipoint installed for quite a long time now. I rechecked it just now with the Visual Studio package. The Visual Studio package shows now problems even after several tests. Additionally I have installed an evaluation version of InstallShield. InstallShield has the problem with the disappearance of some labels too, though at least for some reason the label "Install shield" is always over ther line and always grayed out.
Really odd why the Visual Strudio packacke has entirely no problems?!

Paul

Re: Dialog labels disappear during installation

Hi Paul,

Perhaps the Visual Studio developers know some inside tricks. We will investigate to see if we find something. Until then, a solution is to stop the Intellipoint process.
