Message "Product is already installed"

Hi,

I'm still experimenting with your product and I ran into the following problem:

I have two completely different installation packages. The only thing that is equal is the product version (product name is different!)
Now, after starting the 2nd package, AI displays the "Product is already installed" message although the 2nd package was never installed before!

Is only the "product version" used to distinguish between different installation packages? If YES, is this a limitation of MSI or of AI?

My idea was to divide a complex installation into different small installation packages. Because all of these small packages belong together, they all have the same product versions. Is there a better approach to accomplish this?

Hi,

I belive that your problem is that you have 2 packages for the same application and you have created the second starting from the first one.

You can not just duplicate a AIP project. A MSI package is identified by UpgradeCode, ProductCode, and ProductVersion and every component has its own GUID.

If you want to have two application with the same structure you must create both from scratch.
