Invalid Class String

HI,
I am new to Advanced Installer. I am trying to use the wizard to create my first installer project. However, when I select the Visual Studio Project (2013 Basic) and press next, I receive the attached error message stating that Visual Studio cannot be started due to an Invalid Class String.
In looking through other posts, I cannot find an answer but I see that support always requests the project files. I have included my project in a zip file.

What is causing this error and how to I eliminate the error?

Thanks,
pat

Re: Invalid Class String

Hello Pat and welcome to Advanced Installer forums,

This may happens if you are using the Express Edition of Microsoft Visual Studio.

Also you can take a look on the Visual Studio Application Import tutorial which will guide you to import a Visual Studio solution into an Advanced Installer project.

I've tested your sample having the Professional version of Visual Studio installed and it worked as expected. Can you please tell us what version of Advanced Installer are you using?

Please let us know if that helped.

Best regards,
Dan

Re: Invalid Class String

Hello,

I believe this to be a bug with Advanced Installer. I reported the same exact issue a couple of months back; the issue was reproduced by this forum, but to date I've not seen a solution yet.

Best regards,

Carlos

Hello,

It seems this is an Advanced Installer issue. A fix will be available in the next version of Advanced Installer which will be released soon (couples of days). Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

I'm afraid it isn't.

Re: Invalid Class String

I am sorry to report that even version 2013 is not fixed on my installation. As you can see from the attached screen shot, the same error is occurring.

As I am new to Advanced Installer, could someone please give me a typical release frequency. My clients are asking when this will be done.

Thank you,
pat

Re: Invalid Class String

Hello Pat,

Just to be sure, you are not using an Express edition of Visual Studio? I ask this because we do not support importing projects created with the Express editions, limitation from Microsoft.

We usually release a new version in less than 2 months, including both new features and fixes for the current ones. Also, we only make public the specific version features and bug fixes after its release, in the Advanced Installer – Version History page.

Re: Invalid Class String

Hi,

I am currently evaluating Advanced Installer as a potential to replace our existing WIX installer. I also encounter "Invalid class string" error when try to import a Wix Visual Studio project. I am using a Visual Studio 2005 Professional.

What is the error mean and how do I resolve it?

Thanks,
Mark.
