"key not valid in specified state"

I have just issued an application update, and a user has been unable to install due to the following error. I have never seen it before, and (so far) most users seem to be updating OK. This user is using Vista 64 bit.
I Googled around a bit, and found a page that suggested that a recent Windows security update (KB2918614, issued 26/08/2014) was responsible, and some systems would fail when installing MSI packages. Do you know anything about this? I am not sure how to proceed, but this could become a bit of a hassle if more users start getting the error.

thanks,
Matt

Re: "key not valid in specified state"

Hello Matt,

I'm not aware about the root cause of the mentioned error. Can you please please send us the .AIP (project file) and a verbose log of the installation to support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can investigate them? Also, if you can send us the link to the page discussing the possible cause (KB2918614) this could be useful too.

All the best,
Daniel

Has this issue been resolved? We've also run into this issue for some of our users.

Re: "key not valid in specified state"

Hello,

This issue seems to be caused by the "KB2918614" Microsoft security update for Windows Installer Service. There are also another three official known issues with this update. Please take a look on the "Known issues with this security update" section of the linked article.

So, can you please uninstall the "KB2918614" Windows update, reboot your computer and see if the behavior still persists?

All the best,
Daniel
