Hi, Leading up to the final launch of our main application, we want the installer to run first one .exe, then receive a message back when this .exe finishes. Upon receipt of this message, then the installer should run the 2nd .exe. This .exe would then send a message to the installer to finish up, ie make shortcuts, remove unnecessary files, and close installer and launch the application. Is this possible? If so, which version of IA is required for this? Can it be done for a Mac also?

I am afraid this is not possible. Only one executable can be run under that step.
Also, note that when that step is executed, everything has already been installed (shortcuts, unnecessary files have already been removed, files installed, etc).
You can investigate the use of Custom Actions from our user guide.
Also, please follow the simple and professional tutorials there in their entirety.
