Updater not installed when upgrading

When I run my installer of a later version than installed, it uninstalls the previous version automatically.

However the updater exe is missing and then I cannot uninstall, because the installer is calling the updater exe to clean up.

If I do a clean install, everything is fine, the updater exe is installed.

Any help is appreciated.

Please tell me why the updater.exe is missing from your package? You remove it from the updater view? Give me more details about this.

Hi Gigi,

Thanks for your quick response. I am not touching anything in the Updater view. The updater functionality is enabled there.

When I build my installer and install it on a clean machine, everything is fine, the updater exe is installed in the installation directory. When I use the same installer on a machine where a previous version is installed, after the installer finishes, the updater exe cannot be found in the installation directory.

Hi,

Please tell me with what version of AI you create the older version and the newer version of you project. Also please tell me what version of windows installer you have on your computer (you can determine it by viewing the version of the msi.dll file from system32 folder).

Hi Gigi,

I am using AI 4.5, for both the new and old installer. My version of msi is: 3.1.4000.2435

I can give you the log files for the clean install and the upgrade if you like. For the clean install I can see that the updater is installed properly:

InstallFiles: File: updater.exe, Directory: C:\Program Files\MyApp\, Size: 177664
MSI (s) (E0:04) [12:05:18:326]: Note: 1: 2318 2: C:\Program Files\MyApp\updater.exe

For the upgrade, these lines are not there in the log file.

Hi Nicolas,

I cannot reproduce this on my computer. Are you sure that you don't manually edit the AIP file (try to reproduce this with a test project)? Also please try on other computer to see if you get the same behavior.

However if the problem persist please sent both AIP files (old and new) if not contain any confidential informations to support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can take a look.

Hi Gigi,

I could reproduce it with a test project. I sent it to the support address. I narrowed it down: it only happens if I use LZMA compression.
