Dialog: "Preparing to install"

Hello everybody,

I am using AI 5.1.1 and my problem is the following:

Before the installation of my product begins, it is checked via the "Prerequisites" if Postgresql and a JRE are installed.
That works well so far, but if I want to install on a computer where several JREs are already installed, it lasts at min 20s until the first Dialog appears.
That's quite long and so I ask if there's an option for a small Pre-Installation Dialog, e.g. only with the text "Preparing to install" as it is realized in many applications (e.g. postgresql installer).

Best regards
max

Hey Max,

I am really really new to this. I was just curious why you are using JRE as a prerequisite instead of just bundling the JRE, since you are having this problem? This way they have it. I read an article today--a blog by a sun Guru, that shows how the JRE footprint is getting very small. He is developing it now with his team to be even smaller...

Obviously you know way much more than I know, but this is what I am going to do, just bundle it (God willing). Give them the latest and the greatest. Sun has an article out where they are encouraging folks to bundle the JRE (who knows why exactly) but they do state that at the end of 2007 Microsoft is phasing something out which will warrant that users to have the most up to date versions....

Any way this is not what you wanted, and probably not useful or what you need. I just wanted to try to help even to acknowledge your post.

Peace,

trusting in the Lord....

This is depending on the complexity of the search that is performed. However having that dialog is a good idea. We have added this as feature on our TODO list. Thank you for your suggestion.

Ok, thanks for your answers.

Two more questions:
1. Is there a chance for the next release?

2. I am currently searching the JRE by the criteria "Registry Subkeys Enumeration" and the key "HKLM\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment" as it was the default. Is there a faster possibility?

Hi Max,

1. I'm afraid I don't have an ETA for now.

2. I cannot reproduce this behavior on my test computer, the search is done instantaneously. To investigate this please send the AIP file (if doesn't contain any confidential information) or a small similar test case reproducing this behavior to support at advancedinstaller dot com.

Hi,
I solved the problem of the long startup-phase with better search criteria. But apart from that I would appreciate the dialog in one of the next versions.

Thanks for your help
