Driver install fails to install and start driver

Hi,

I posted another thread ( http://www.advancedinstaller.com/forums ... 941#p93941 ) on a dialog that pops up during the device driver install, thinking this may be the cause, but as it turns out the dialog is "normal"... but what is not normal is the driver fails to install.

I had the developer who wrote the driver manually test installing the driver using the .INF file and it succeeds.

But the attached driver install project fails to install the driver when the installer is run.

Would you please take a look into why this project is not installing the driver?

After performing the manual install steps (below), I really think this is an advanced installer issue

Here are the manual install steps

NOTE: These steps are performed on the files (and file structure) that the installer leaves when the install is complete, but the driver is not installed or running ( see above )

Step 1:

Navigate to the driver folder. Right click on .INF file. Click install. Driver successfully installs (no error messages are given)

Step 2:

Open administrator command prompt . Type "sc start pdetect" and hit enter. Driver successfully starts running

Step 3:

Start the test program. Notice "Driver is installed and running" is now displayed

Hello Mike,

I'm not sure why when using our "Drivers" support to install your driver files your EXE application doesn't detect the installed driver, but there may be an incompatibility between your driver installation requirements and our built-in support for drivers.

However, since you iterated the manual steps for a successful driver installation, instead of using our "Drivers" page to install your driver I have configured the driver installation steps into your setup project using four "Launch file" custom actions, in "Custom Actions" page:
1. two custom actions which install, respectively start the driver service (configured on install)
2. and another two custom actions which stop the driver service , respectively uninstall the driver (configured on uninstall)

Please find attached to this thread your AIP (project file) configured accordingly. Please rebuild and test it and let us know if this works as expected.

Here is my install project - the real one... not the test one, with the changes you suggested.

NOTE: This install project installs a windows service as well as the driver

ANOTHER NOTE: the service that is installed USES the driver that is also installed.

Hello Mike,

Please also check the "When the system is being modified (deferred)" execution time option for all of your custom actions in "Custom Actions" page.
