Use network adapters information to identify the computer

Hi,

Could you explain how this feature in the licensing tab works?

I had expected it would enable doing a runtime check of the MAC address to what MAC address was in the license file (using customised license) but this doesn't seem to be the case?

Thanks,

Hello,

Indeed, that option should enable Licensing to identify a computer using its MAC address.

Could you please give me some more details about what exactly is not working on your end?

Additionally, could you please forward me a test-case which I can follow in order to reproduce it?

Best regards,

My problem is it's not clear how you even use this feature? How do you specify for a given license what is the valid MAC address?

(it doesn't seem to be well documented)

Re: Use network adapters information to identify the computer

Hello MT,

In the past, the processor serial number was used in order to generate the Computer ID.

However, we had some cases where on some laptops/PCs, the processor serial number would be the same. Basically, we would consider them as being the same machines.

Based on that, we have added the posibility to generate the Computer ID based on the MAC address, which is unique and varies from a PC to another.

Hope things are more clear now.

Re: Use network adapters information to identify the computer

Ah I see ... so when you select this checkbox, it replaces or augments using the processor ID with the MAC address for the purposes of generating the 'request' value that has to be 'countersigned' (in effect) by the license generation process? But I assume then that if you havent selected the option to generate a license key based on the computer id that this network adapters checkbox has no effect?

Hello MT,

Yes, you are right in both assumptions.

Please let me know if there is anything else I could help you with.
