Downloading a newer version on install

I currently have one particular product which is undergoing major revision and when completed will be sold both directly by myself (via web distribution) and hopefully by a third party who will distribute it via cd. In order to justify printing costs for good quality cd's I need obviously to have printed a good number but I do not see them all rushing off the shelves prior to any updates coming out.

Is it currently possible to have the installer check to see if a newer version is available online prior to commencing the installation and if one is then offering the end user the option to install that rather than the version on the disk and if so how would one go about doing so? If not could such a feature be added and preferably, from my point of view, sooner rather that later!

Re: Downloading a newer version on install

Hi Dom,

Currently this is not supported by Advanced Installer. However, I have added it on our TODO list and it will be available in a future version. Thank you for your suggestion.
Until then, you can try using a "New Installed Custom Action" to launch the Updater at the end of the installation. This way, after installing the package the user can see if there are any available updates.
