Warning 1910. Could not remove shortcut

Hi,

it was reported from multiple users that while installing an update of our software they get a:

Warning 1910. Could not Remove Shortcut

Error. When clicking ok, the shortcut is actually removed and the installation continues. Any ideas on what could be triggering this?

Since the upgrade to build 47481 (Advanced Installer 9.6 Professional) we also have this error message popup on uninstall. The uninstall seems to work as expected besides this error msgbox.

Can you please provide a verbose log created on one of the machines that reproduces this problem and also send us an e-mail with .aip file used to build the setup?

Hi Bogdan,

Requested files attached.

Note the problem appears related to shortcuts installed on the common desktop. The install is per machine. Most shortcuts are added to the common start menu as usual but 3 programs shortcuts are also added to the common desktop.

Hello Markus,

I'm afraid we couldn't find an exact solution for this, but you can try to change the Desktop shortcut name and see if the behavior persists. Also, you can try using "Build separate databases" option from the Mixed 32/64 wizard if you have a mixed 32/64 bit installation package.

Unfortunately, as my colleague Eusebiu mentioned in an earlier post, this is a Windows Installer problem and there's not much we can do about it. The only solutions we found were to use unique names for your shortcuts.

I have the same problem with desktop shortcuts not being removed in Windows 8 64 bit system, while in Windows 7 I can't remember having run into this issue.

I mean that you can use different names for all of your your shortcuts pointing to the same target file. For example if you have two shortcut (one on Desktop and one on Startup) for the same target file (e.g. MyFile), then you can try to use different shortcuts names (e.g. MyDesktopShortcut and MyStartupShortcut).
