Windows Protected Your PC

Sorry if this is a simple question -- I searched and could not find the answer.

I have inherited a project that is distributed using Advanced Installer.
When being installed on Windows 8 computers, I get the error message, "Windows Protected Your PC" and an OK button, which prevents the file from being installed.
If I click on the tiny, "More Info" link, I get "Unknown Publisher" but an option to run anyway.

On earlier versions of Windows using IE (works in Firefox & Chrome), I might get a dire warning that running this file may harm your computer.

Is there something I can set in Advanced Installer to allow our product to be installed on Windows 8 without this error message, and also to be installed on earlier versions of Windows after downloading from IE without the message that it might harm your computer?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Windows Protected Your PC

Hello Anne and welcome to Advanced Installer forums,

Thank you for your interest in Advanced Installer.

The "Unknown Publisher" warning is displayed when a package is not digitally signed. You'll need to sign your package so Windows can verify its authenticity.
In order to achieve that you can digitally sign the package from Digital Signature Page in your Advanced Installer project.

Also please take a look on How to pass the smart screen on Win8 when install a signed application? thread which debates a similar problem.

Please let us know if that helped otherwise give us more details.

Best regards,
Dan
