chained pakkages on Terminal server

installing on Terminal server with 'Control Panel --> Install Application On Remote Desktop Server' and chained pakkage in it give a message like
"Preparing for first time use" and a cancel button when the chained pakkage is installed from the main setup.
the setup seems to be waiting for ever.
But when the chained pakkage is directly installed ( not from within the main setup ) every thing goes well.

Any suggestions ?

Re: chained pakkages on Terminal server

Hello Jan,

This may happen due to a Windows Installer limitation. Chained packages cannot be installed under a remote connection. Please take a look on our "Why does a chained packages installation fail to install on Windows Server machines when I'm connected through a remote connection?" faq.

As a workaround you can try to add your chained packages as post-install prerequisites and see if this helps.

All the best,

Hello Daniel,

Your suggestion works fine for the installation.
But when uninstalling you get the same issue again.
Still its a big step forward.
I don't know if this is standard "msi" behavior or that advanced installer can do something about this?
Let me know.

Kind regards Jan

Re: chained pakkages on Terminal server

Hello Jan,

So, after you add the chained setups as post-install prerequisites you get [Cancel] button on uninstall only. I'm not sure why this happens.

Can you please send us the .AIP (project file) and a verbose log of the uninstall to support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can investigate them?

All the best,
Daniel

Re: chained pakkages on Terminal server

I found the cause why i still got the Cancel button on an uninstall.
It was an "old" chained package which i did not suspect.
Thanks for your effort.

kind regards Jan
