SFTP Downloads?

Hello,

Can Advanced Installer download files from SFTP during the installation process?

Re: SFTP Downloads?

Hello K,

I do not think we have built-in support for this, but most likely that is achievable through a Custom Action.

Currently, our "File Download" operation only supports "http", "https" and "ftp", if the documentation is up to date.

You could try that using a "sftp" link and see if that works.

Thanks for you answer.

Do you mean like using VBScript in Custom Action?

Hello K,

Code: Select all

Do you mean like using VBScript in Custom Action?
Yes, it can be anything to be honest - VBS, PowerShell, C#.

Before that, I would suggest trying our "File Download" operation first, perhaps that will save you from creating your own custom action.

Re: SFTP Downloads?

Hello,

Does the new version of Advanced Installer have a solution to download files from SFTP which also asks for username and password?

Re: SFTP Downloads?

Hello K,

I'm afraid this might not be possible with our predefined support.

Thank you for your understanding!

Hello,

It is OK, I understand. Will there be support in the future versions?

Re: SFTP Downloads?

Hello K,

Sure, I can add this on our TODO list of improvements.

However, until then, could you please give me some more details about your scenario so I can better understand it and forward it to our dev team?

The installer needs to download files in SFTP. For example, sftp.example.com/myfile. You also need to enter a username and password to access the files in SFTP. This SFTP link does not directly point to the file. It is not sftp.example.com/myfile.zip, just sftp.example.com/myfile.

Re: SFTP Downloads?

Hello,

Thank you for your followup on this and for sharing the scenario's details with me!

On our "File Download" article, it mentions that:
For resources that need authentication the format should be : protocol://username:password@DomainOrIP:port/path/filename
Example : https://username:password@example.com
Have you tried setting it like that?

Thanks. I tried this one,

https://username:password@sftp.example.com

But, I got this error message,

The URL is invalid.
