Problem with MSI

Hi,

I'm having a weird issue in that whenever I launch an MSI it tries to repair itself and causes the customization I've done with my PSADT to become obsolete.

Customization such as where to place the shortcut for the application, permission on various folders etc.

Is this something you can please advise on, please ?

Can I perhaps use Advanced installer to amend the MSI to prevent repair perhaps or is there a better method - we don't use MSTs here.

Thank you.

Re: Problem with MSI

Hello,

Is the MSI created with Advanced installer or an already existing MSI?

Usually, the repair is triggered due to the self-healing mechanism or advertised shortcuts. For more information, you can read the following articles:

How to Use The File Extensions Entry Point to Trigger Self-healing in an MSI

How do I implement self-healing into the application?

Hope this helps!

Re: Problem with MSI

Hi,

The MSI is directly from the software company.

Exactly it's doing a self-repair when it's launched by the user for the first time.

Is there any way I can prevent this behavior perhaps using Advanced Installer?

Re: Problem with MSI

Hello,

With Advanced Installer, you can open and edit the MSI file - this requires the Architect edition.

You would need to find out what is causing the self repair and remove it - from what it looks like, it is caused by an advertised shortcut.
