MSIX Editor in Enterprise Edition | Edit and Fix MSIX Packages from Any Tool
Back in March 2018, Microsoft announced the MSIX packaging format and introduced Advanced Installer as the first recommended tool for creating MSIX packages.
Since then, we’ve released hundreds of MSIX-related features, articles, and books to help you create, fix, and transition to the MSIX format more easily.
One of these features is the Advanced Installer MSIX Editor, a GUI-based tool introduced in 2019.
This feature allows you to edit and fix existing MSIX packages – regardless of the tool you used to create them – whether you used Microsoft’s MSIX Packaging Tool or another vendor’s tool.
Watch our video to get an MSIX Editor overview.
MSIX Editor Included With the Enterprise Edition Starting v23.0

Starting with version 23.0 of Advanced Installer, we are including the MSIX Editor in the Enterprise edition.
This means:
- If you have a valid Enterprise or Architect license or subscription, you can start using the MSIX Editor immediately – just update to version 23.0 or newer.
- No separate purchase is required to access the MSIX Editor within the Enterprise edition.
Package Support Framework Fixups

Aside from the editing capabilities, MSIX Editor includes support for the Package Support Framework (PSF).
You can:
- Open any package with the MSIX Editor.
- Use the Trace option to detect issues
- Add the fixups from the AppCompat view.
Even if the MSIX package was originally created with Microsoft’s MSIX Packaging Tool or another solution, you can still apply PSF fixups generated by Advanced Installer.
Advanced Scenarios: Modification and Optional Packages

While the Enterprise edition allows you to edit standard MSIX packages, support for MSIX modification packages and optional packages remains exclusive to the Architect edition.
If you need to work with these advanced MSIX scenarios, you need the Architect edition.
What’s Coming in Q4 2025: Auto-Fix Enhancements

We are currently working on new capabilities for the MSIX Editor that will be released in Q4 2025.
These features will:
- Automatically fix more issues found in packages created with the MSIX Packaging Tool.
- Apply the same compatibility improvements that Advanced Installer already handles when building packages from scratch or while using our Repackager.
Whether you're troubleshooting, applying PSF fixups, or preparing applications for deployment, the MSIX Editor streamlines your MSIX packaging process, no matter where your package originated.
