What’s New in Advanced Installer 23.9
Version 23.9 is now available and includes new capabilities for certificate validation, expanded virtualization support, improved registry component handling, and additional SBOM customization options.
Here’s what this release includes:
- 1 new feature focused on security and certificate validation
- 13 enhancements across packaging, deployment, and SBOM workflows
- 24 bug fixes to improve reliability and usability
Security: Durable EKU checking for matching certificates

This release introduces Expected Identity OID support in the Updater settings for certificates issued through Microsoft ArtifactSigning.
This adds a more reliable validation method by allowing the Updater to check the publisher identity OID from the certificate’s Enhanced Key Usage extension, instead of relying only on certificate subject fields that may change over time.
This helps keep update validation consistent across future certificate renewals.
RegSvr32 file registration via built-in custom action

Advanced Installer 23.9 adds built-in support for registering files through a dedicated RegSvr32 custom action.
This simplifies COM component registration scenarios by allowing you to configure file registration directly from your installer project without additional scripting or workarounds.
Support for VMware Workstation 26h1 in Repackager

Repackager now supports capturing applications from VMware Workstation 26H1 environments.
This ensures compatibility with the latest supported VMware virtualization platform when creating repackaging snapshots.
SBOM improvements

Advanced Installer 23.9 introduces several improvements to Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) generation and management.
New capabilities include:
- Command-line support for SBOM generation
- Configurable Namespace URI base paths
- Additional package metadata support
- License information improvements
These updates provide more flexibility when integrating SBOM generation into automated packaging and compliance workflows.
Introducing Open Package Manifest (OPM)

Deployment Information Belongs with the Application

Applications are easy to move between teams and environments.
Their deployment information usually is not.
Installation commands, detection rules, requirements, and other deployment settings are often recreated or stored across multiple tools.
Built by the teams behind Advanced Installer and PacKit, Open Package Manifest (OPM) is an open format that keeps your application's deployment information together with the application source.
By making deployment information portable, OPM simplifies application handoffs, versioning, automation, and deployment across different tools and environments.
