VB 6 install

Hi, this may be a little basic . . . (I am using AI V. 6.7.1)

I have 60 users on a network and we are upgrading all PC's to Windows 7. I want to install some support files on the user's machines (VB6, True DBGrid Pro, CR XI Merge Modules etc). The MS Access databases and VB6 exe files already exist and are run from a networked drive so they do not need to be included in the package.

Is it sufficient to just include the various dll's, ocx's and data access files (taken from the Support folder of an existing VB6 install package) in the Files and Folders section of the AIP and the CR Merge Modules in the Merge Module section? Could I even just drop in the VB6 CAB file that contains all the necessary VB files?

Thanks in advance!

. . . and, of course, the ODBC DSN under the ODBC section.

Hello Peter,
Is it sufficient to just include the various dll's, ocx's and data access files (taken from the Support folder of an existing VB6 install package) in the Files and Folders section of the AIP and the CR Merge Modules in the Merge Module section?
All the resources you add in the Files and Folders page will be included in your package and installed in the specified location. The CR merge modules from the Merge Modules page as well.
Could I even just drop in the VB6 CAB file that contains all the necessary VB files?
This way your package will install the file as a regular file. The installer won't extract the files from your CAB, instead it will place it in its Files and Folders specified location.
. . . and, of course, the ODBC DSN under the ODBC section.
This will install your driver on the target machine. For more information, please read our ODBC page article from the user guide.

Since you are new, I highly recommend you read our tutorials for a better understanding of how to use Advanced Installer to efficiently deploy your products. This will also help you better understand support team's suggestions now and in the future. Re: VB 6 install

Again, thanks Mihai for your helpful response.

Actually I have been using AI since 2009 and I think it is a great product. I just wondered if it could be used for simple bulk copying and registering of support files only.
