PacKit, a new home for your software packages
I started working in tech in 2009. My early years were focused on building technology and supporting developers in building installers for their desktop applications.
Later on, I began exploring application repackaging and the complexities involved in migrating to a new OS during the transition from XP to Windows 7.
Remember, it was the early 2010s. Intune was just getting announced, the cloud as we know it today was used mainly by Amazon and a few early adopters, App-V wasn’t on my radar and PSADT was probably just an idea. Windows Installer was over a decade old and people were still struggling to install applications silently.
In over a decade of working with IT professionals, I’ve seen many standards for packaging, updating, and migrating applications.
What still frustrates me the most is seeing packagers using text or Word documents as a “database” for their package information.
This method is inefficient and error-prone.
Professionals need a free tool to cover these basic requirements.
That’s why we built PacKit.
What is PacKit?
PacKit helps you rule all application packaging workflows. Here's what it offers:
- Centralized Command Line Storage: Where you save all your deployment command lines in one place.
- Comprehensive Command Line Switches Database: Where you’ll find command line switches for any application.
- Seamless Update Automation: Where you’ll automate updates for the packages you’ve deployed.
- Efficient Intune App Management: Where you’ll manage your Intune app assignments with ease.
- Robust Package Testing: Where you can thoroughly test your packages.
- Tool Integration: Where you can leverage your favorite tools, like PSADT, Advanced Installer, or the Microsoft Win32 Content Prep Tool.
PacKit Editions: Free and Paid Features
The free edition of PacKit allows you to manage your list of packages and manually upload them to Intune or MECM. Soon, you will also be able to browse our app catalog and manually add new packages to your workspace. The free edition also includes troubleshooting tools built by Advanced Installer.
All of these features will be free forever.
The paid edition offers additional capabilities such as auto-updates for patching your deployments, app assignment, custom actions configurable for each package, and many more features.
Our Roadmap: What’s Next for PacKit?
In May 2024, we released our first version of PacKit.
We’ll continue to release monthly updates, including new features, both free and paid.
In our next release, you will get a free integration with PSADT. In the following months, we plan to release our first version of an app catalog and app assignment for Intune.
